Artistes brave cold, wet night at the National Theatre
By Steven Odeke
Last Saturday, Alliance Française in partnership with Goethe Zentrum and Uganda German Cultural Society held a World Music Day festival at the National Theatre. Despite the wet and cold evening, a good number of music lovers braved the conditions to attend.
The night featured electrifying performances from The Baximba Waves Band, Jackie Akello, Harold Kiggundu, Afrigo Band’s Moses Matovu, and many more. A standout moment came when Jackie Akello graced the stage in a radiant outfit and delivered an inspiring set that had the crowd dancing despite the drizzle.
The Baximba Waves Band, led by Godfrey Lubuulwa, kept the energy high with fusion jazz, Afrobeat, and traditional rhythms. Their set was especially moving, with Lubuulwa’s accordion performance receiving a rousing ovation.
Other artists like Maurice Kirya, Joel Sebunjo, Jude Kiracho, and a six-man horn section added to the lively atmosphere. It was a celebration of talent, culture, and resilience in the face of challenging weather.
The event was hailed as a triumph, proving that music indeed unites and uplifts regardless of circumstances.
